Eligibility
To be eligible for a camp subsidy, applicants must:
- Have a child registered or intending to register in a Hornby Island Recreation camp or program.
- Be experiencing financial barriers that would otherwise prevent participation.
- Complete and submit a Camp Subsidy Application Form.
- Be residents of Hornby Island or have a demonstrated connection to the community.
Subsidy Amounts
- Subsidies may cover up to 50%–100% of camp registration fees, depending on available funding and demand.
- Funding is limited and subsidies are not guaranteed.
- Assistance may be provided for multiple camps if funding allows.
Application Process
- Complete a Camp Subsidy Application Form.
- Submit the application prior to the registration deadline whenever possible.
- Applications will be reviewed confidentially by the Recreation Coordinator or Recreation Committee
- Applicants will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible.
Prioritization
If requests exceed available funding, priority may be given to:
- Children who would otherwise be unable to attend camp.
- Families with multiple children registering.
- First-time subsidy applicants.
- Applicants who have received limited subsidy support in previous years.
Confidentiality
All subsidy applications and related information will be treated as confidential and reviewed only by authorized staff involved in the administration of the program.
Participant Expectations
Families receiving a subsidy are expected to:
- Attend the camp(s) for which assistance is provided whenever possible.
- Notify the Recreation Coordinator if they need to withdraw so that funding may be reallocated to another participant.
